Crown’s confession could help detained staff

A prominent Chinese law firm has urged Crown Resorts to issue a confession to Chinese authorities in order to improve the situation for its detained employees, The Australian reports.

18 employees of Crown were arrested nearly two months ago for allegedly marketing its casinos and VIP rooms to Chinese nationals.

Only one employee, Jenny Jiang - an administrative assistant appears to have been released so far.

Chen Youxi, director of Hangzhou-based Capital Equity Legal Group said Crown could improve the fate of its employees if it issues a clear confession to Chinese authorities.

“A clear attitude will help. Crown needs to admit clearly to the Chinese authorities what it has done and explain how it had gone about its business in the country.”

“A promise that it will not in the future cross the line” in the “grey zone” between what was permitted by casino resort companies and what was not could also help, he said.

“It also needs to hire good lawyers to defend its employees,” he added.

Crown is using Leezhao, a Shanghai-based law firm to represent their interests.
