Donaco describes impact of coronavirus on business

Australia-listed Donaco International on Tuesday released a statement describing the impact of the coronavirus crisis on business operations at its Star Vegas hotel, located on the border of Cambodia and Thailand. 

On Monday, the Thailand government announced that the border crossing from Thailand to Poipet has been closed for 14 days, potentially reopening on April 5, 2020. 

In response, Donaco has decided to close most of the Star Vegas Hotel with only minimal operations ongoing, with a review of this on a daily basis.  

To the first 22 days of March, total casino visitation was 53,463 players, down 15 percent from February. Rolling chip turnover was down 9 percent compared to February.

Star Vegas has now also arranged for unpaid leave for many staff members in March and April, as well as reducing total headcount and deferring various capital expenditure projects.

Over in Vietnam, the Aristo Hotel will also see decreased staff, and the company has also put any non-essential staff on hold until further notice. 

“The Board and Management is closely monitoring the situation, with the safety of both our visitors and staff foremost in our mind. We are taking proactive measures to ensure a safe operating environment, as well as controlling expenditure.”
