Donaco warns casino closures will have “material impact”

Australia-listed Donaco International has warned that the closure of its casinos in Vietnam and Cambodia will have a “material impact” on its business.

The company said it will continue to monitor developments and will provide an update in due course.

The company confirmed that it has been told to close its casino in northern Vietnam from April 1st for 15 days. The Aristo International is located in Lao Cai, close to the Chinese border. Donaco said earlier this week it was shutting its Star Vegas casino in Cambodia, which is situated close to the Thai border.

Earlier this month, Donaco said that in the first 22 days of March, total casino visitation to Star Vegas was 53,463 players, averaging approximately 2,430 players per day, down 15 percent on the year-earlier period. Rolling chip turnover increased by 9 percent. It has not provided similar figures for Aristo.

The Vietnam and Cambodia shutdowns now mean that only casinos in Singapore and Macau remain open. Singapore’s properties are operating under severe restrictions, with only card members and those who have paid an annual levy able to enter. In Macau, visitation is minimal due to border restrictions.
