Gaming workers in Macau were down 3.1 percent from August to October

Macau registered 3.1 percent fewer gaming and junket workers during the August–October period, according to the most recent survey by the group’s statistical body.

The segment employed some 68,800 workers during the period, compared to 71,000 in the July to September period – a surprising drop considering the push to overcome a labor shortage which plagued the city’s ramp-up earlier in the year.
The hotel segment saw an opposite situation, with employment up by nearly 3 percent, to 26,900 – a similar situation seen in restaurants, up 1.9 percent to 21,100.
The unemployment rate overall in Macau rested at 2.4 percent.
In regards to Macau’s employment breakdown by segment, those in the ‘recreational, cultural, gaming and other services’ made up 21.7 percent, while those in ‘hotels, restaurants and similar activities’ comprised 13 percent.
