Genting Malaysia has applied for a certificate of personal fitness for an online gaming license for Ireland, according to local media reports.
The licence would allow the Malaysian operator to offer its "GentingBet" online brand in the country. GentingBet is already established in the U.K. and offers a sportsbook, online slots and live casino-style games.
Genting applied for the licence on June 4 from its base in Malta, the report said.
In its annual report for 2019, Genting Malaysia noted that it has seen strong growth in its online business and had been investing for further expansion.
During the year, it rebranded as GentingBet and launched a new website with exclusive content. Last year, it also bought Authentic Gaming to incorporate innovative streaming technologies to bring together its offline and online gaming experiences.
Despite the closure of its casinos worldwide due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Genting said its online business had performed within expectations in Q1.
