Genting, Wynn court date set for Jan. 29

The court battle between Genting Las Vegas and Wynn Resorts over claims of copycat building design has been moved to Jan. 29, local media reports.

On Friday, U.S. District Court Judge Gloria Navarro directed the attorneys for Wynn Resorts Ltd. and Resorts World to attend a hearing Jan. 29 in Las Vegas to present arguments on how Resorts World Las Vegas could produce a property design that doesn’t resemble Wynn and Encore.

In December, Wynn filed a five-count trademark infringement and unfair competition lawsuit against Genting’s Las Vegas property, requesting an injunction that would temporarily halt construction of the property.

Wynn pointed out Genting’s similar bronze curved glass design in its building concepts, claiming damages.

However, in January, Genting defended itself, saying that Wynn’s assumption was “speculative extrapolation” given the project was in the early stages of construction.

“Genting (Resorts World’s parent company) remains confident that once all of the relevant facts are presented the company will defeat Wynn’s baseless claims,” Michael Levoff, senior vice president of public affairs and development for Genting, said in an emailed statement to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
