Goa casinos to shut for 24 hours on Oct 2

All casinos in Goa are set to shut for 24 hours on October 2 to celebrate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, local media reports.

"Every year, the Government of Goa observes the dry day on October 2 in order to pay homage and respect to the Father of the Nation. In this regard, all the casino licensees shall stop the operations on October 2," said Goa state Under Secretary (Home) Neetal Amonkar stated in a notification issued in Panaji on Thursday.

Goa currently has six offshore casinos and 12 land-based casinos housed in a number of five-star hotels.
