Imperial Pacific requests deadline extensions

Casino operator Imperial Pacific International has requested to extend the license of its temporary casino at T-Galleria in order to buy more time for the construction of its new integrated resort, Marianas Variety reports.

The casino operator was originally planning a “soft opening” of its new casino on Mar. 31, but it appears this deadline may be pushed after IPI chairman Mark Brown on Wednesday said there is a need to extend the implementation schedule deadlines.

In his letter to the governor, Brown has requested an extension of their temporary casino operations from April 30, 2017 to Oct. 31, 2017 in order to “complete the construction and initiate operations of the gaming facility.”

The chairman also requested an extension on the deadline to complete and initiate operations of Imperial Pacific Resort and Hotel, Phase One from Feb. 11, 2018 to May 1, 2023; and and an extension of the deadline to complete and initiate operations of Phase 2 from Aug. 11, 2022 to May 1, 2030.

Brown said the request was due to extensive damage to the construction site and office during Typhoon Saudelor; a limited supply of cement; unpredictable ground conditions; drainage issues; air-rights agreement for tower cranes; inclement weather; lack of readily available skilled laborers; the length of time it took to execute the public land lease for the Garapan property; and the expiration of the Mariana Resort lease.
