IPI on the verge of opening casino

Saipan’s Department of Public Works has finally approved Imperial Pacific’s conditional certificate of occupancy, bringing the casino operator one step closer to opening the casino portion of its resort project.

According to local media, the permit was reportedly issued on Tuesday, with IPI now required to get approvals from the Commonwealth Casino Commission before it can officially open the casino.

The conditional occupancy permit requires IPI to restrict the movement of its tower cranes to ensure the safety of its patrons, and will require a safety officer to “monitor the swing limits of the tower cranes [and] adhere to the tower crane safety plan. Failure to adhere to these conditions will result in the revocation of the occupancy permit.

The permit also states that the maximum occupants of the casino facility is 1,061 — with 30 staff members for the bar, 106 for the business offices, 93 for business office 1, and 832 for the grand lobby.

The opening of IPI’s casino portion will see its temporary casino at T Galleria simultaneously cease operations.

The operator originally had planned to open its casino on January 28, in time for Chinese New Year.
