Yoshifumi Kato, president and CEO of Keihan Holdings, who announced last year that it was “his greatest mission” to connect by railway the anticipated IR at Yumeshima, Osaka, with Japan’s ancient capital of Kyoto, is seeing his vision come nearer reality, according to a recent article in the Nihon Keizai Shinbun.
The plan calls for the Keihan Nakanoshima Line to be extended to Osaka Metro Kujo Station on the Chuo Line. Since the Osaka government is now moving forward with an extension of the Chuo Line past its current terminus at Cosmo Square, Sakishima, to Yumeshima, this would potentially create a direct rail link from the Yumeshima IR to Japan’s premier tourism capital, the ancient city of Kyoto.
Keihan Holdings is also a significant player in the hotel business, including the operation of two major hotels in the immediate vicinity of Yumeshima—Hotel Keihan Universal City and Hotel Keihan Universal Tower. They are also about to open a new first-class hotel near Kyoto Station called “The Thousand Tokyo.”
Potentially, Keihan Holdings could become a partner in the anticipated Osaka IR consortium, though no direct information about their involvement is currently available.
