Konami gaming division profit up 8.7 percent

Slot machine supplier Konami Holdings Corp reported a 46.4 percent increase in consolidated profit for the quarter ended June 30, 2017, according to a filing from the company on Friday.

Profit in the quarter reached JPY8.5 billion (US$76.8 million), while total revenue amounted to JPY55.7 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of 12.8 percent.

With respect to its slot machine business, Konami said revenue from this segment decreased 4.4 percent to JPY6.5 billion in the quarter, because its new casino management systems were mostly installed at small and medium-sized casinos, despite strong sales of slot machines mainly in the North American market.

The segment profit increased 8.7 percent in the quarter, reaching JPY804 million, mainly due to promoting cost reduction in existing products.

Looking to the future, Konami says it will continue to make efforts to develop and enhance the sales centered on the Concerto and the Podium series, which is continuing to be popular and long-selling.

The company says it forecasts total revenue of JPY245 billion for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2018, while profit attributable to owners of the parent are forecasted to reach JPY27 million, in line with its previous estimates.
