Law Commission recommends online betting restrictions

The Law Commission of India is another step closer to finalizing its recommendations on the legalization of online betting.

According to local media reports, the recommendations include restricting the amount a person can bet, which is determined by income levels, and allowing each person to bet no more than three times a year.

A senior functionary of the commission told PTI that stringent regulations should be in place as “people have lost so much money.”

According to a working document prepared for members, should online gambling be legalized, punters would be required to play through a licensed operator.

The operator would need to gather details of the player including income and total property to allow him or her to place a high or low stake bet.

The recommendations also seek not allow any individual place online bets more than three times a year.

The final report is expected to be published in the next month or so.
