Lawmaker proposes responsible gaming program

A Saipan lawmaker wants to implement a responsible gambling program for the poker industry, Marianas Variety reports.

Representative Angel Demapan made the comment on Tuesday during the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation session after members voted to reject a bill extending the deadline for poker arcades to move out of residential villages by two years.

“The people who need a responsible gambling program are not casino high rollers but those in the poker industry. It’s not too late to talk about [additional] regulations for the poker industry,” Demapan said.

“These are the things that we need to consider. We can provide a safer community if we implement a responsible gambling program,” he added.
