Macau junket numbers shrink despite VIP rebound

The number of junket operators in Macau has shrunk by 12.8 percent over the past year, according to a list published by the DICJ.

The number of licensed operators dropped to 109 from 125 in January last year. Of the total 99 were companies and 10 were individuals.

Local media reported that ten companies and six individuals ceased operations in the year.

The number of junket operators has been declining in recent years, especially following the collapse of the VIP market in the wake of China’s anti-corruption drive.

Last year, the sector rebounded sharply, leading a 19.1 percent gain in the market overall.
