Macau smoking rooms may not always be viable, Health Ministry says

Macau’s Health Ministry has admitted that setting up smoking rooms on the territory’s casino floors may not always be viable, with two operators saying they have no plans to reconfigure their space to accommodate smokers. Smoking will be banned on casino floors from October 6th this year, though the ban does not extend to the operators’ VIP rooms. Elsewhere in the world, government smoking bans have led to a sharp drop in revenue, though analysts estimate the impact in Macau is likely to be benign.
