Macau still the preferred casino destination

Macau is still the easiest and most accessible destination for Chinese tourists to visit casinos, and will remain as a key destination for Chinese outbound visitors, says Bernstein in a Wednesday report.

“While reasons for visiting Macau may be varied, gaming is the primary reason for the vast majority of visitors,” noted the brokerage. “Aside from gaming, other reasons to visit Macau include: dining, sightseeing and shopping – areas which Macau continues to develop and improve.”

Macau is host to just over 20 million Chinese visitors each year, noted Bernstein, which is expected to grow to 34 million by 2025.

A critical driver of this, is increased hotel capacity and transportation improvements.

“The new supply of hotel rooms and both non-gaming and gaming offerings should drive Macau's long-term growth in visitation,” said Bernstein. “Infrastructure development is a key long-term driver for Macau to further penetrate the Chinese market, leading to greater visitation.”
