Australia’s Melbourne Cup, the biggest event of the horse racing season, left the country in shock after the death of two horses, including the favorite Admire Rakti.
The Japanese stallion Admire Rakti collapsed in his stall after the event, with the autopsy results showing he died of heart failure. The second horse Araldo had to be put down after a breaking a leg on returning to the stalls.
The horse spooked at a child waving a flag and kicked out breaking a bone too badly to be repaired.
The deaths have helped stir anti-racing sentiment in Australia, where 125 horses have lost their lives on Australian racetracks from August 2013 - July 2014.
