Melco opens Cyprus satellite casino

Melco Resorts & Entertainment has launched the first of four planned satellite casinos on the island of Cyprus, local media reports.

The opening of Cyprus Casinos Nicosia follows the launch of Melco’s temporary casino – Cyprus Casinos Limassol last June.

“C2 will significantly contribute to the efforts of the Cypriot government to combat illegal gaming,” Craig Ballantyne, property president City of Dreams Mediterranean and Cyprus Casinos was cited as saying.

Around 100 people have been employed at the Nicosia casino, bringing the total number of Melco staff in Cyprus to over 700, Cyprus Mail Online says.

C2 Nicosia has a total area of 970 m2 and features five live tables and 50 slot machines. Cyprus Casinos Larnaca, the second satellite casino, is scheduled to open at Larnaca International Airport later in December, the report said.

The gaming area at the original facility in Limassol consists of 1300 square meters, with 33 table games and 258 slot machines, according to the company’s web site.

Melco is developing a City of Dreams-branded IR on the island, which is expected to open in 2021. The EU550 million resort is scheduled to have a 7,500m2 gaming area with about 140 tables and 1,200 gaming machines. It will also feature 500 five-star hotel rooms, together with MICE facilities, restaurants and a spa.
