Nagaland legislative assembly passes online skill game bill


The Nagaland legislative assembly has passed the Nagaland Prohibition of Gambling and Promotion and Regulation of Online Games of Skill Bill, 2015, local media reports.

According to a report in the The Morung Express, the select committee examining the Bill was satisfied with all clauses and approved the Bill without significant changes.

The Bill, which was originally introduced in Jul. 2015, is set to change the way government and regulators perceive games of skill such as poker, rummy, and fantasy sports.

Now passed by the legislative assembly, the bill now awaits assent of the Government, after which rules and licensing policies will be formulated by the state government. It is expected to take several months.
