Nagasaki moving ahead with RFI

In an exclusive interview with Asia Gaming Brief, Nagasaki Governor Hodo Nakamura revealed that the RFI (Request for Information) process with IR operators would be conducted before the end of this year, with an eye to compiling the prefecture’s basic plan around next March.

Governor Nakamura also stated that a Nagasaki prefectural task force to consider gambling addiction policies will likely be established later this month.

Nagasaki has proposed that its existing Huis Ten Bosch theme park in Sasebo city become the base of a regional IR. This theme park is built to resemble a Dutch village, celebrating the centuries when Nagasaki was Japan’s only open port, the gateway for all of the nation’s interchanges with the European world.

In Governor Nakamura’s account, the prefectural and city governments, as well as the business community, are united in welcoming an IR. He believes that popular opposition will subside after a sustained effort is made to explain the benefits and to assuage the fears.
