Nikkei holds IR seminar in Sapporo

The Nihon Keizai Shinbun held its second IR seminar on March 5, this time in Sapporo, Hokkaido, before an audience of 367 people.

Five international IR operators sent representatives to speak at the event: Caesars Entertainment, Hard Rock International, Melco Resorts & Entertainment, Mohegan, and Rush Street. Clairvest played the role of “special sponsor” but featured no speaker.

Rush Street Gaming’s presenter was Chicago billionaire, Chairman Neil Bluhm.

The keynote speech was given by former Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba, who emphasized that an IR is not something that the national government should dictate, but rather an opportunity for local governments to take the initiative to promote their own development in their own way. He also suggested that it might be worthwhile to change the term “Integrated Resort” into some new term that would better create public understanding.

Like the Hokkaido IR Showcase in January, this event took place under the shadow of April gubernatorial and prefectural assembly elections, which will determine whether or not any IR bid will be forthcoming from Hokkaido.
