Non-gaming spending rises 17.5 percent in 17Q1


Visitor non-gaming expenditure reached MOP 13.75 billion in the second quarter of 2017, representing a rise of 17.5 percent year-on-year, according to information from the Statistics and Census Service.

Total spending of overnight visitors in the quarter rose 22.5 percent year-on-year to MOP 11.4 billion, while same-day visitors declined by 1.5 percent to MOP2.4 billion.

Per-capita spending of visitors rose 11.7 percent year-on-year to MOP1,787, with Chinese visitors leading per capita spending, reaching MOP2,162, an increase of 16.8 percent.

Per-capita spending of visitors from Malaysia went increased 8.2 percent to MOP1,793, while those from Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan fell by 8.2, 3.9 and 6.9 percent respectively.

With regards to type of visitor spending, visitors spent mainly on shopping (43 percent), compared to accommodation (25.6 percent) and food and beverage (23.1 percent).
