NSW regulators updates rules on gaming machines, casinos

The NSW gaming regulator has announced an update on a number of rules affecting gaming machines and casinos operating within the state.

“As part of the NSW Government’s ongoing commitment to effective regulation of gaming machines, the Gaming Machines Regulation 2019 comes into effect on 1 September 2019. It replaces the expiring Gaming Machines Regulation 2010.”

Under the regulation, a number of key changes will occur, including no longer requiring clocks to be hung in gaming areas, application fee changes for gaming-related licenses, and more effective player information and harm minimization requirements, among others.

These changes will mostly affect club and pub venues in the state, which are legally allowed to operate electronic gaming machines.

Similar changes have also been applied to the Casino Control Regulation 2009, which also comes into effect on September 1.

Under the Casino Control Regulation 2019, there will now be a new responsible service of alcohol (RSA) requirements for casino venues in the state.

There will also be changes to clock displays, player information and harm minimization measures and changes to special employee license fees.

These changes will only have an effect on The Star casino in Sydney, however, the measures will apply to Crown’s Barangaroo casino once it is opened in 2020.
