NZ TAB hit by cyber attack

New Zealand Racing Board said the TAB’s website has been the subject of a cyber attack that began on Boxing Day and has prevented punters from placing bets.

"It started on the afternoon of Boxing Day and we've probably had seven or eight occurrences," NZ Racing Board acting chief executive Glenn Patrick was cited as saying in local media.

The attack was described as “unprecedented and concentrated.”

Staff have had holiday leave cut short to work on securing the site. Customer data is said to be secure.

TAB had probably lost some turnover, given the Christmas-New Year period is busy for racing and sport, Patrick said. However, at this point takings remained strong.
