October visitor arrivals increased 7.9 pct


China’s National Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival holidays pushed visitor arrivals to Macau up 16.2 percent month-on-month, according to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

Total visitor arrivals totalled 2.9 million in the month of October, a 7.9 percent increase from the same period in 2016.

The month saw an increase in visitors from mainland China, up 12.8 percent year-on-year. Visitors from Korea surged 54.5 percent, while those travelling from Hong Kong and Taiwan fell 9.4 and 2.1 percent respectively.

The data also showed that visitors from the US, Australia, Canada and the UK registered decreases.

Overnight visitors and same day visitors grew 7.3 and 8.4 percent respectively, while the average length of stay of visitors held steady.

The numbers brought visitor arrivals for the first 10 months of the year to 26.7 million, up 4.6 percent compared to the same period in 2016.
