Operators increase security following RWM incident

Macau’s casino operators have been asked to step up their security following the botched robbery at Resorts World Manila on Friday that left more than 30 dead, local media reports.

On Sunday, an emergency meeting was held between Macau’s six concessionaires, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) and the Judiciary Police to discuss casino safety, and response during emergencies.

During the meeting, the casinos were asked to increase security personnel and equipment for security screenings, and enhance their communication with the police in cases of emergencies.

According to a report from Macau TDM, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau pledged to step up its inspection work.

"We will supervise the changes. If it is found they need to add more security facilities, security measures or even human resources, we will do what is necessary", said Secretary for economy and Finance Lionel Leong.

Leong also asked the city’s six gaming operators will submit their reports on enhanced casino security measures in a week’s time, according to Macau Post Daily.

The Secretary said the city’s safety was pivotal to Macau’s development into a world tourism and leisure centre.

After receiving the proposals from the six operators, the government will study them to see whether the measures would be adequate to ensure the safety of casino patrons and staff, said Leong.
