Galaxy becomes first operator to accept WeChat payments

Galaxy Entertainment Group has become the first casino operator in Macau to accept WeChat Pay across its property portfolio.

The company made the announcement on Wednesday, the day it launched its partnership with ICBC (Macau) and WeChat to accept the payment method.

“GEG’s first-in-Macau partnership with ICBC (Macau) and WeChat answers the needs of Mainland Chinese visitors to Macau, who overwhelmingly prefer to pay with e-wallets such as WeChat Pay,” said the company in a press release on Wednesday.

Galaxy will be launching the payment method across its three flagship properties including Galaxy Macau, Broadway Macau and StarWorld Hotel.

Raymond Yap, senior director of international premium and mass market development of GEG,

said, “GEG is proud to embark upon a first-in-Macau partnership with ICBC (Macau) and WeChat; two leaders at the forefront of their own industries who share our own commitment to delivering innovative, convenient experiences.”

“By launching WeChat Pay across GEG properties, we are providing an exclusive opportunity for Macau’s valued Mainland China visitors to use a preferred payment method for their comfort, security and convenience. In the meantime, we are also supporting SME throughout this launch to build up more business connections with Mainland Chinese consumers.”

Speaking on behalf of ICBC (Macau), Mr. Zheng Kai, deputy chief executive officer of ICBC (Macau) said: “As the largest local registered bank in Macau, ICBC (Macau) has long been focused on the development of its finance technology. ICBC (Macau) was the first local WeChat Pay clearing organization officially approved by regulatory authority of Macau, and the launch of WeChat Pay also meets the regulatory requirements of the country.”
