SJM transfers over 1,000 employees to non-gaming roles, lost 30% of gaming tables since 2019

SJM Resorts has transferred over 1,000 of its former gaming employees to non-gaming positions as the gaming operator has lost nearly 30 percent of its gaming tables since 2019.

The changes to employee structure were announced at a launch ceremony for a cross-training development program for gaming employees on Monday. According to the company, the training program was jointly organized by SJM and Macau’s Labor Affairs Bureau, aimed at enabling gaming employees to be trained to work in departments such as catering, marketing, and human resources.
Daisy Ho, chairman, and executive director of SJM Holdings, said that the company responded to the appropriate diversification development strategy of the Macau Government with practical actions. She says she believes the program will provide systematic professional certification training courses for gaming employees, helping them to better and more quickly engage in non-gaming roles.
According to AGB checks, SJM Resorts had 1,775 gaming tables in 2019. After the specifics of the new gaming concessions were announced in 2022, the number of gaming tables decreased to 1,250, which represents a decline of nearly 30 percent. 
At the same time, the number of Satellite Casinos under SJM fell from 14 to nine.
