Overnight visitors increase in May


Visitor arrivals in Macau rose slightly in the month of May to a total of 2.6 million, along with a healthy rise in overnight visitors, according to the latest data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

According to the department, total visitor arrivals in the month was up 3.7 percent year-on-year, with overnight visitors up 14.2 percent to 1.4 million, while same-day visitors declined 6.1 percent to 1.2 million in the month.

While visitors from Mainland China still accounted for most of the arrivals in the month, this number declined 4.4 percent year-on-year to 1.7 million. Visitors from South Korea saw the biggest growth, rising 50.1 percent to 72,205.

The May arrivals brought visitor arrivals for the first five months of the year to 13.2 million, up by 6.3 percent.
