Paradise Sept. revenue flat

Paradise Co., which runs foreigner-only casinos in South Korea, reported flat September revenue, though for the first nine months of the year, sales have risen 17 percent.

According to a filing with the South Korean Stock Exchange, total sales for the month were KRW53 billion ($47.1 million), up 0.9 percent. Table games revenue slipped 1 percent to KRW49.5 billion, while machine revenue was up 37.4 percent to KRW31.9 billion.

For the year to end-September, total casino sales were KRW462.4 billion, with table games revenue up 16.9 percent and machine revenue gaining 17.7 percent.

Paradise runs the Walker-hill, Jeju Grand, and Busan Casino, as well as the country’s first IR Incheon Paradise City, which is a joint venture with Japan’s Sega Sammy.

Total table games drop was up 6 percent in September to KRW489 billion from the same month the prior year, but down slightly from August. In the nine month period, table drop gained 12.4 percent.

The company provides no commentary with its monthly sales reports. Last year, South Korea’s foreigner-only casinos were hit hard by a travel ban by China on tour groups to the country. The ban was imposed in retaliation for Seoul’s decision to deploy a U.S. anti-missile system.
