Paradise to expand casinos, boost table count by 10 percent

South Korea’s Paradise Co. plans to expand some of its casinos and boost the table count by more than 10 percent, Vice Chairman Lee Hyuk-Byung told Bloomberg in an interview.

The company will expand the floor space at three of its five casinos, doubling the size of the gaming areas of one of its casino on Jeju island. It will also add 26 gambling tables at its properties, mostly for baccarat games, bringing the total in operation to 252, the company said.

Paradise is planning its expansion in the hopes of wooing an increasing number of Chinese visitors away from Macau, where gambling revenue is declining.

“If you visit our casinos, it isn’t full on the weekdays, but on the weekends from Friday afternoon to Sundays, it’s fully packed and very crowded,” Lee told the news agency. “This means we cannot provide all the gaming needs of our visitors. By expanding, we can.”

The company will be spending $26 million on the expansion, he said.
