Paul Phua acquitted in Macau illegal gambling case

Malaysian businessman Paul Phua and 14 others have been acquitted by a Macau court on charges of running an illegal gambling operation in four rooms at the Wynn Macau, said to have moved HK$1.16 billion (US$147.7 million) in bets, local media reports.

Phua was one of 24 people arrested during a raid in 2014. After being released on bail he flew to Las Vegas on a private jet where he was again arrested and accused of running an illegal betting group in a Caesars Palace villa.

He was also acquitted in that case after a U.S. federal court judge found the raid by the Federal Bureau of Investigation violated Phua’s privacy rights. .
