Penang to curb youth gambling

The island of Penang is set to enforce a ban on all gaming simulators by the end of 2018, local media reports.

According to Penang’s chief minister Lim Guan Eng, the decision to ban these games followed complaints that these simulators were increasingly being used by the youth for gambling.

“This is the decision of the state executive council,” said Lim.

It is understood that the state’s two local government bodies, the Penang Island City Council and Seberang Perai Municipal Council, had already stopped accepting new licences for gaming facilities.

The latest ban is an extension of the prohibition on gaming machines issued last month, which originally made an exception for malls, supermarkets and hotels. The prohibition is now set to apply across all premises.
