Philippines unlikely to achieve tourist target, with only 5M visitors in 11 months

According to data from the Department of Tourism (DOT), the Philippines welcomed nearly 5 million international visitors between January and November, making it unlikely that the country will meet its target of 7.7 million international arrivals for 2024.

This figure represents a 9.6 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
In 2023, the Philippines recorded 5.45 million international visitors. If the current trends continue, the 2024 international tourist tally may remain similar to last year's figures.
In November alone, the country received 433,130 international visitors. South Korea remained the top source of inbound tourists, with 1,435,571 visitors recorded during the eleven-month period, reflecting a 10.5 percent increase from the same period last year. South Korean visitors accounted for approximately 26.8 percent of the total international arrivals, significantly outpacing other markets.
The United States retained its second-place ranking, with 839,635 visitors during the same period, marking a modest growth of 3.8 percent.
Japan ranked third, with 352,630 arrivals, showing a substantial surge of 27.9 percent. China followed closely, with 297,604 visitors traveling to the Philippines between January and November.
