Princess Cruises, a subsidiary of Carnival Corporation, said it will be suspending its cruise operations of all 18 ships until May 11, 2020.
The cancellations come as the coronavirus wreaks havoc on the world’s cruise, airline, and other tourism-related industries. In recent weeks, two Princess Cruise ships have been quarantined.
The company said that passengers on a cruise set to finish within five days would sail as expected, and any voyages that are scheduled to conclude after this time would be ended at “the most convenient location.”
The company said it will be providing ticket holders with cash refunds or vouchers for future cruises if their voyages are canceled.
Robin M. Farley, an analyst at UBS said she wouldn’t be surprised if other cruise operators followed Princess’s decision to suspend operations for 60 days.
