A group of Sands China team members visited attractions in Zhuhai’s Hengqin New Area this week, according to a press release from the company on Thursday.
The trip was said to be part of the operator’s efforts to help its staff understand the opportunities and developments in mainland China.
“As the largest operator of integrated resorts in Macau, Sands China ensures that its industry-leading services and other facilities meet the highest international standards,” said Sands China Ltd. president Dr. Wilfred Wong. “Backed by the mainland and faced with global challenges, Macau occupies a strategic position. Therefore, we hope our team members can keep themselves up to date with the latest developments in the mainland, and strive to understand the fundamentals of China’s development policies and prepare for the numerous opportunities brought about by its strategic initiatives, thereby contributing to Macau’s transformation into a world centre of tourism and leisure.”
The group’s time in the special economic district was aimed at helping them better understand the economic development in Hengqin, and included tours of the Zhuhai Shizimen Central Business District Showroom, where they learned about the overall development plan of Hengqin, and other large-scale projects such as China’s large MICE complex – the Zhuhai International Convention and Exhibition Centre; the Shizimen Central Business District, the only land-based link between Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China; and Hengqin’s theme park and resort.
The operator said it plans to organize similar activities for its team members in the future.
