Sega Sammy aims for main position in IR consortium

Hajime Satomi, president of Sega Sammy Holdings, told a meeting last Monday that his company aimed for a “main position” in a Japan IR consortium. He added that they would produce an “IR Grand Design” before the end of this year.

Sega Sammy is one of a very few Japanese enterprises that has substantial experience in the gaming industry. They currently own a large minority stake in Paradise City in Incheon, Korea, at which almost fifty direct employees of Sega Sammy Holdings are currently deployed.

The company is attempting to familiarize itself with all aspects of IR operations.

Satomi expressed his view that the IR Implementation Bill would likely be enacted by the Diet around June of next year, and that the locations and consortiums to be licensed would be selected during the course of 2019.

He did not indicate any specifics about the potential size of investment, but Sega Sammy appears to be eyeing a role commensurate with the international IR operators now jockeying for position within Japan.
