Sega Sammy net up 5.7% in Apr-Jun

Sega Sammy Holdings recorded a group-wide JPY72.7 billion (US$673 million) net income in the April-June 2019 period, representing a 5.7 percent year-on-year increase.

Operating profits reached JPY3.4 billion ($31 million) for the quarter, which was a 265 percent increase over the 2018 figure.

In the companies pachinko and pachislot segment, results were mixed. About 17,000 pachislot machines were sold and 16,000 pachinko machines were sold in the quarter. Overall, the segment saw a financial decline of about 20 percent. Nevertheless, with a new generation of machines on the way, the company statement noted, “expectations are rising for market revitalization.”

In the resort segment, net income reached almost JPY2.5 billion ($23 million), which was a year-on-year 6 percent increase. The segment recorded an operating loss, however, because “there was an increase in expenses for entering the domestic integrated resort business.”
