Six South Koreans arrested in online gambling bust in Vietnam

Vietnamese police in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau have arrested and handed over six South Korean nationals accused of setting up online gambling websites. The illegal sites had around 4,000 customers and turned over approximately 10 billion won (US$9.28 million).

Local police captured the illegal gambling organizers on Wednesday Jan. 21 in a villa they had rented on Le Hong Phong Street in Vung Tau City with the aid of a police unit from the Ministry of Public Security. While searching the villa in Vung Tau City, police seized more than 10 computers as well as equipment and devices that served the operations of the online gambling network. The detainees told police that they had been sent to Vietnam by a South Korean named Choi Hojun, 39. They said Choi Hojun had stayed in the same villa with them but he returned to South Korea before the police raid.

The six accused, aged between 24 and 35, will be escorted back by South Korean police to South Korea for trial on organized gambling charges in accordance with the laws of that country.
