SJM hosts Macau Derby 2015


This year marked the thirteenth consecutive year of title sponsorship by Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (“SJM”) for the Macau Derby.  Directors of SJM, including Dr. Ambrose So and Ms. Angela Leong, celebrated the event with guests and horse fans at the Macau Jockey Club today. 

In addition to the SJM Macau Derby, SJM was also the title sponsor of the Grand Lisboa Cup, Oceanus Cup and SJM ec card Cup held at the Taipa racecourse this afternoon.  Other major races today also included the Macau Hong Kong Trophy and the Chairman's Challenge Cup.  The total prize-money for Saturday’s race meeting was HK$8.3 million. 

SJM Macau Derby (Group 1 Race, 1,800 meters) attracted twelve 4-year-old horses to compete for a total prize-money of HK$2,600,000, and the champion went to “The Alfonso”.  Ms. Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of Macau Government Tourist Office, Dr. Ambrose So, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM and Ms. Angela Leong, Managing Director of SJM presented the trophies to the winning owner, trainer and jockey respectively.

 “Bobo So Cute” won the Grand Lisboa Cup, a 1,500-meter race with a total prize-money of HK$650,000.  President of Macao Sport Development Board Mr. José Maria da Fonseca Tavares, Dr. Ambrose So and Dr. David Lan, Independent Non-Executive Director of SJM Holdings Limited presented the trophies to the winning owner, trainer and jockey respectively.

 “Mission Well” won the first place at the SJM ec card Cup, a 1,100-meter race with a total prize-money of HK$350,000, while “Sheng Li Win” scored victory at the Oceanus Cup, a 1,600-meter race with a total prize-money of HK$650,000.

Dr. Ambrose So said, “Macau Derby is a major event on Macau’s horse racing calendar, and we are pleased to show our continued support for the thirteenth consecutive year, aiming to add more diversified elements to the city’s leisure and sports activities.”
