SkyCity CEO Nigel Morrison and Fletcher Building CEO Mark Adamson witnessed the demolition works on 16 buildings that currently occupy the future site of the New Zealand International Convention Center (NZICC) and the Hobson Hotel, a 5-star, 300 room hotel, kicking off a 38-month building project.
The $700 million project is one of the largest construction projects in downtown Auckland since the Sky Tower was built.
Fletcher Building CEO Mark Adamson says the company is delighted to be working on such a significant project and will be keeping a close eye on delivery milestones. “The Sky Tower was a 24-month build and at the time this was thought to be an impossible deadline but we delivered. Since then we've delivered many other significant projects in New Zealand and are looking forward to replicating our success on this project.”
SkyCity CEO Nigel Morrison said he was delighted to see work had begun before Christmas.
To reduce the impact of the project on those living near the site, Fletcher Construction has set up noise and vibration monitors onsite, as well as a comprehensive traffic management plan to reduce traffic impacts.
The NZICC will become the largest convention center in country, able to host conventions of 3,000 people.
