Twelve pachinko parlors forced to close due to flood damage

At least twelve pachinko parlors in Hiroshima, Okayama, and Ehime prefectures were forced to suspend business due to last week’s flooding in western Japan and about ten of these outlets remain closed at the present time, the All Japan Pachinko and Pachislot Cooperative Association told AGB.

The nature of the damage in most cases is that water flooded into the parlors, damaging floors and the gaming machines, and in some cases knocking out running water and sewage systems.

On July 12, the All Japan Pachinko and Pachislot Cooperative Association asked the All Japan Machinery Dealers Association, whose members include the makers of the gaming machines, to consider special measures to assist the afflicted parlors.

Even without the disaster, many pachinko parlors are barely surviving economically, with fewer of them existing nationally month by month. The All Japan Pachinko and Pachislot Cooperative Association fears that many of these flood-damaged outlets won’t be able to reopen without some form of support.
