Visitor arrivals to Macau edged up from April to May by 0.9 percent to 2.54 million compared to the same period the year before, with the number of mainland tourists down slightly, according to official statistics.
Information from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that visitors from Mainland China totalled 1.69 million, up 3.6 percent month-to-month but down by 0.5 percent year-on-year.
Those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme increased by 3.5 percent year-on-year to 752,982.
Overall year-on-year visitor numbers were down 2.7 percent in the first five months of 2015, totaling 12,508,218, with same-day visitors rising by 1 percent. Visitors from Mainland China and Hong Kong decreased by 3.1 percent and 0.7 percent, respectively.
Visitors from Taiwan and South Korea increased by 1.4 percent and 16.0 percent, respectively, while visitors from the United States, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom recorded a year-on-year decrease.
