The Japanese brokerage Nomura agrees with the sentiments of the Osaka government in a November 9 research note that declares, “a win for both the World Expo bid and the casino license would be expected to boost investment returns and have a positive impact on Osaka's economy.”
The announcement of the host for the 2025 World Expo will take place on November 23. Osaka is competing against Ekaterinburg in Russia and Baku in Azerbaijan. Osaka is also considered to be the national frontrunner in gaining one of the three IR licenses to be made available in the first round of construction.
The Nomura analysis continues: “This would likely stimulate redevelopment around Yumeshima, and benefit companies with real estate in the area and Osaka-based construction companies. We also believe that drawing more foreign visitors to the area would increase the stability and growth prospects for the many hotels already being developed in the area.”
