Yat Yuen Canidrome may not have contract renewed

Macau racing operator Yat Yuen Canidrome Co. may not have its concession renewed, a government source has told Macau Daily Times.

It has become “more and more difficult” to import greyhounds to Macau, and that is a “crucial” aspect for the government to consider when deciding whether to renew the contract of the Canidrome.

According to the official, a recent study on greyhound racing operations conducted by the Institute of Studies at the University of Macau (UM) has been handed to Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), and says a  “a decision will be made in one or two months” on whether to renew the contract with Canidrome or not.

Recent demonstrations against the import and export of greyhounds is said to have “expedited the process” in Macau.
