Cotai Connection was "all business": DSAT

The recent decision by three gaming operators in Cotai to integrated shuttle buses was more a business decision than a social responsibility one, says Kelvin Lam, Director of the Macau's Transport Bureau.

In an interview with Macau Business Daily, the transport director, along with hospitality and gaming professor Lawrence Fong said the recently launched ‘Cotai Connection’ - an upgraded shuttle bus service that aims to facilitate the transport of visitors around the Cotai Strip, will not have a direct effect on traffic congestion, rather, the shuttle bus link “is more for enhancing the ‘clustering effect’ ​of the Cotai area... as such a kind of arrangement helps to draw people to the Cotai area,” said Fong, 

“These three properties are not connected by air-conditioned pathways, which may hinder people from traveling between the properties, and the connection bus route would facilitate people to travel,” he added.

“I think they are reducing the shuttle buses because traffic is down and tourism numbers are decreasing,” added Lam. 

In a press release from Galaxy Entertainment earlier in the week, the enhancement was said to not only reduce the number of shuttle buses travelling between hotels, but also help streamline the shuttle bus routes and improve visitors’ overall experience.
