Philippines bans smoking in public places

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has signed an executive order banning smoking in public places nationwide, local media reports.

Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial told ABS CBN news that Duterte signed the executive order last May 16. It is currently unclear what the impact will be for the country’s casinos and whether they will allow enclosed smoking rooms, such as in Macau.

The order does make a provision for designated smoking areas in either an open space or a separate area with proper ventilation.

For a DSA inside an enclosed space, there shall be no opening that would allow air to escape into smoke-free area of a building or conveyance, except for a single door equipped with an automatic door closer.
