Queensland scuppers ASF’s Gold Coast resort plan

The Queensland Government last week ended plans for China-backed ASF Consortium’s plans for a more than $7 billion dollar integrated resort for Australia’s Gold Coast.

The move follows strong opposition from environmental groups concerned about the impact of a large-scale cruise ship terminal that formed part of the development plans.

The company said in a release it would continue to work with the government in an attempt to find an alternative.

“The Gold Coast and Queensland need the 20,000 jobs this Project will create. ASF Consortium wants to work with the Queensland Government to make this happens to ensure the Gold Coast remains the international tourism capital of Australia well into the future,” it said in a news release.

Now more than ever in a slowing economy in Queensland, it is important that ASF Consortium sees this vital piece of tourism infrastructure delivered for the Gold Coast and Queensland, it added.
