Airport slot machines on hold

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has agreed to temporarily suspend a draft decree allowing slot machines at Vietnam’s international airports, local media reports.

The draft will restart after the three year trial period of 2 IR's (Van Don and Phu Quoc) is completed.

The idea of slot machines at international airports was first proposed by the Ministry of Transport in July 2015. It gained principal approval in December 2015, and in 2016, the Ministry of Finance established a decree drafting team along with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Ministry of Public Security, and conducted a survey at international airports.

However, as the government is now is considering a draft decree on the casino business that would allow for local Vietnamese citizens to enter, airport slot machines has been put on hold.
