Berjaya PH unit files injunction against PCSO

The Makati Regional Trial Court has issued a writ of preliminary injunction against the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) for allegedly violating Berjaya Philippines Inc’s exclusive right to supply and lease lottery equipment in the Luzon territory.

The injunction, which was imposed on August 10, bars the PCSO from “conducting or continuing with the public bidding process and from performing any act that will violate the petitioner’s right as an exclusive supplier / lessor of lottery equipment to PCSO insofar as the Luzon territory is concerned.”

Philippine Gaming Management Corp (PGMC), a unit of Berjaya Philippines had earlier entered into arbitration with PCSO after it permitted Pacific Online Systems Corp to supply terminals in Luzon in 2012.

PGMC is seeking for three more years of exclusivity in Luzon in accordance to an amended equipment lease agreement entered with PCSO in 2007.

It is understood that the PCSO has cancelled the bidding process for the Luzon territory after being served a copy of the writ, according to a filing by BToto on Bursa Malaysia.
